The Team

Our team, the Insomniacs, was founded in 2008 with the primary goal of introducing young high school students from the Fremont Unified School District to a collaborative, fast-paced learning environment centered around STEM activities such as designing, building, and programming large robots for FRC competitions, experimenting with new technologies, and fostering a unique business/outreach experience. Team members spend a third of the year participating in various modules, with topics ranging from basic robot code, CAD modeling, and electronic configuration, to business and networking.

Here at The Insomniacs, we emphasize a team-centric ethos where the experience of each and every team member is of utmost importance while ensuring that everyone also has fun!. In an age when many of us high-school students are glued to our laptop screens or phones, this team gives us a great opportunity to get hands-on and really learn some valuable skills in robotics. We take any high-school student from the FUSD, and we all learn together as a team!

This open and fun environment has brought us success in the past few years – in 2013, our team achieved first place at the Sacramento state competition and did even better at the World’s competition in St. Louis, Missouri. In addition to this accomplishment, we won an off-season event and Cal-games in 2014, where more than 50 teams participated.

These victories have motivated our team to accomplish much more in the future and help spread the idea of technology to the new and upcoming generations in our Bay Area community. We hope that you share this enthusiasm for robotics with us, and we welcome you to our team should you choose to embark on this fruitful journey with us!!
