The 2011 FRC game is called Logomotion, and is played on the standard 27 by 54ft field. Three-team alliances are situated at the end of the field, and two 3×3 scoring pegs form scoring grids [aka scoring racks] in front of each alliance wall. Additionally, four towers extend from each corner, placed at the end of designated lanes.

The game begins with a 15 second autonomous period, where robots will attempt to place yellow ‘Ubertubes’ on the scoring rack. They will begin on their side of the field, with both lines on the floor for line sensing and vision targets on the scoring rack to help guide the robot. Ubertubes alone have no point value whatsoever, but can be used later to earn bonus points.

After the autonomous period, the teleoperated period begins. While human drivers control the robot, human players will introduce game pieces into play by handing them to the robot. Each robot can only have one game piece at a time, and must travel the length of the field to score on the opposite alliance’s scoring rack.

The game pieces are inner tubes shaped like the FIRST logo, and can be placed on any scoring peg. Tubes placed on the bottom-most row are worth 1 point, the middle row, 2 points, and the top row, 3 points. The aforementioned bonus points can be earned when the inner tube covers a pre-placed Ubertube, which will double the points. Bonus points can also be formed if the three inner tubes form the FIRST logo [red triangle on the left, white circle in the middle, and blue square on the right], which will then double the whole row’s points.

In the last ten seconds of the game, the major bonus opportunity will begin. At the 4 towers, each robot will deploy a minibot. The robot can’t launch the minibot, but must release the minibot under a certain height. When the minibot is attached to the pole, it will race to the top. The fastest minibot will earn 30 bonus points, 2nd place earns 20, 3rd earn 15, and 4th earns 10. As there are only 4 towers, 2 teams will not have the opportunity to deploy their minibots.
